Team India skipper Virat Kohli is expected to be part of a charity programme for cancer patients on the occasion of the 225th-anniversary celebration of the Calcutta Cricket and Football Club (CCFC) which is scheduled to be held on November 18 which also boasted of some former stars and current stars.
Eden Gardens is expected to host a Test match against Sri Lanka in November and likelihood; the programme will be held on the evening of the 3rd day’s play of the scheduled series between India and Sri Lanka.
Club President Arun Lal was present at the Eden Gardens during India’s pre-match practise season on Wednesday and asked Kohli for the same, sources revealed. “Invites have been sent to Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Yuvraj (Singh) also,” former India opener Arun Lal told reporters here.
“There will be other former players as well like Sunil Gavaskar, Ravi Shastri, VVS Laxman and Sourav Ganguly, Kris Srikanth have confirmed their participation as CC&FC have also invited MS Dhoni and Yuvraj Singh,” Lal added.
Meanwhile, India performed brilliantly in the 2nd ODI against Australia at the Eden Gardens and virtue their 50 runs victory, the hosts took a 2-0 lead in the five-match series. The stadium has been a happy hunting ground for Rohit Sharma where he scored the record-breaking 264 against Sri Lanka a few years back.
It was Virat Kohli’s 92 and Ajinkya Rahane’s fluent half-century which ensured India reached 252 at the end of their allotted 50 overs. They lost the middle overs which never allowed them to go past the 300 mark. It required a monumental task for the Men in Blue to restrict the World Champions, and they did exactly that without any fuss.
It was a sensational piece of swing bowling by Bhuvneshwar Kumar who started the slide with a couple of early wickets and later returned to bag the final wicket of Kane Richardson to finish with impressive figures of 3/9 in 6.1 overs with two maidens behind his back. It was also a special moment for youngster Kuldeep Yadav who bagged a sensational hat-trick and became only the 3rd Indian bowler after Chetan Sharma and Kapil Dev to bag an ODI hat-trick.
