The Test captain, the to be ODI captain of one of the most prestigious cricketing teams, Virat Kohli had a great tour of test matches down under where he smashed 4 centuries in 4 test matches and slowly faded away till he sparkled against Pakistan with a 100 and went quite again.
Erapalli Prasanna felt that the captain of a team like India needs to take more responsibility. He said that Kohli would most probably be the captain of India in the next World Cup.
He said Kohli plays with too much of aggression and exclaimed that you can’t always fight fire with fire so he needs to calm down a bit. He said that Kohli is a very good player but needs to learn and respect his opposition. He also pointed out the mistimed pull off Mitchell Johnson by saying that he cant take on bowlers all the time.
Virat played 8 games in the CWC2015 and averaged 50.83 by scoring 305 runs. Though there is nothing bad about this, it was disappointing the he could not fire in big matches and when it was needed (in the semi-final).
Prasanna criticized Kohli saying that playing with confidence is good but that he needs to learn to respect players who are better than him. He said that Kohli should have played the sheet anchor role in the semi final and that he should have known better than to attempt a pull before settling down to someone like Johnson.
Prasanna felt that after his show in the world cup he was disappointed and felt that Kohli should have shown a similar temperament to the test matches where he scored 4 flawless centuries.
