Virat Kohli To Lead Full-Strength Test Squad Against West Indies, Wriddhiman Saha Returns
Indian selection panel headed by MSK Prasad announced the squad for the upcoming two-match Test series against West Indies. Virat Kohli will lead a strong squad that will see comeback of Test specialists to the international fold. India haven’t played a Test match since January 2019.
There are no surprises in the Test squad as almost every player who was a part of the Test squad has retained his place, barring Murali Vijay who has been dropped following dry run on the tour.
Mayank Agarwal has retained his place in the Test squad. He had made his debut on the Australia tour after replacing an injured Prithvi Shaw. He (Shaw) is suffering from an injury and has not made it to the team.
The Test team has also seen the comeback of Wriddhiman Saha. The wicketkeeper-batsman had suffered an injury during IPL 2018 that kept him out for a long period. In his absence, Rishabh Pant did well and shone with the bat on the tour of Australia.
Despite Saha making his comeback, Rishabh is expected to keep his place in the team. Saha might have to wait for his opportunity due to Rishabh’s excellence in his absence. Saha hasn’t played any Test since January 2018.
Hardik Pandya is currently suffering from an injury and is not a part of the squad. He was called to Australia mid-series but did not play any Test there. He also missed home series against Australia but made a comeback for World Cup.
The two Test matches between India and West Indies will be played from August 22 and 30 in Antigua and Jamaica respectively.
West Indies veteran batsman Chris Gayle is expected to make a comeback to the Test side after a period of five years – for the second Test – to play the last international game of his career that takes place at his home, Jamaica.
Squad:Virat Kohli (Captain), Ajinkya Rahane (VC), Mayank Agarwal, KL Rahul, Cheteshwar Pujara, Hanuma Vihari, Rohit Sharma, Rishabh Pant (WK), Wriddhiman Saha (WK), Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Ishant Sharma, Mohammed Shami, Jasprit Bumrah, Umesh Yadav.
