If Virat Kohli Wins Next World Cup, He Will Roam Around Oxford Street With His Shirt Off, Says Sourav Ganguly 1

Sourav Ganguly certainly definitely knows how to celebrate in England after sealing a final. The former India skipper had famously taken off his shirt at the Lord’s balcony after India beat England in a thriller to seal the Natwest Series final. The incident had taken place way back in 2002, but the memories are still fresh in every cricket fan’s mind.

Well, Ganguly feels a similar celebration, in fact, a bigger one than his, can be witnessed in England if India wins the 2019 World Cup. The legendary cricketer believes India skipper Virat Kohli would roam around Oxford Street shirtless if he leads India to the coveted title.

“If Virat wins the World Cup in 2019, he will roam around Oxford Street with his shirt off. Mark my words,” Ganguly was quoted as saying by India Today.

Ganguly, meanwhile, further shifted his focus towards the change in attitude the current team is experiencing, stating that Kohli gives him the confidence that the current team can excel in overseas matches.

“When we used to go to Australia, there was a gut feeling Laxman and Harbhajan will defeat Australia on their own. Kohli gives me the same feeling,” he added.

“When we played, Indian cricket was different and the thinking was different and we had to take Indian cricket forward, when Dhoni came, he took it forward. Now during Virat’s time he had an established team and he had to take it even further.

“The best thing about Indian cricket is that we have had different role-models in different eras. It has been a step by step growth and we have created champions in different generations. Kohli is the role model now,” he added.

The former batsman also refrained from comparing Kohli with Sachin Tendulkar. Kohli’s Scintillating form has made many believe that the current India skipper can break Tendulkar’s record and although Ganguly also thinks on the same line, he did not compare the players from different generations.

“Don’t know if Virat can break Sachin’s records…I don’t compare two generations. But he has scored 52 and if he plays at this rate…he can reach Sachin’s record,” Ganguly said.
