Calling Virat Kohli a ‘very likable guy’, former Australia leg-spinner Shane Warne has said the India skipper’s ‘friendship’ comment was made in the heat of the moment.
The recently-concluded four-match series between India and Australia was marred with numerous controversies and the Australian media did not leave a single opportunity to target Virat Kohli. The series of controversies had started when Australian captain Steve Smith took dressing room help in taking a DRS call and Kohli stopped short of calling him a cheat.
A disappointed Kohli let his emotions get the better of him at the end of the series, which India won 2-1. During the post-match conference, he had said that his views on friendship with the Australians have changed.
“No, it has changed for sure. I thought that was the case but it has changed for sure. As I said in the heat of the battle, you want to be competitive but yeah I have been proven wrong. The thing I said before the first Test, I have certainly been proven wrong and you won’t hear me say that ever again,” Kohli had said.
However, Warne feels that the comment from the Indian star came out in the heat of the moment.
“Virat is a very likeable guy and I love the fact he plays with so much passion,” Warne told ‘news.com.au’.”But I am sure he’s thinking now there are a few good Aussies out there that I’m friends with and I’d be disappointed if that wasn’t the case.”
“There have been moments in my career and I’ve probably pushed the boundary as well, but I think afterwards we more or less had a laugh about it,” recalled the second highest wicket-taker in Tests.
“I think it was a heat of the moment comment. It was a heated series. There was a lot of stuff said and both captains were into each other, but I think overall the series was played in a good hard fighting Test match spirit,” he said.
