Virat Kohli’s Passion For Winning Test Matches Unreal: Sourav Ganguly

In his very first Test as a skipper, Virat Kohli gave a big hint that draw will never be an option for him when he went for a win after being set a huge target of 364 runs in around 98 overs by Australia. Although India lost the match by 48 runs, Kohli left everyone spellbound with his stunning innings of 141 runs. The man has just gone from strength to strength ever since then and one can say he has exceeded every expectation.

Replacing Mahendra Singh Dhoni, India’s most successful captain, was never going to be an easy task but so far Kohli has done a commendable job. Unbeaten in the last 16 Tests, Kohli has won 12, drawn 6 and has lost only twice in the 19 Tests that he has captained so far. As expected, fans and pundits have been impressed with the way he has managed his young turks and former India skipper Sourav Ganguly is no different. One of the best captains to lead the country, Ganguly has backed the current India Test skipper for more glory in the coming days. However, he said Kohli’s real challenge will be to perform outside the sub-continent.

Speaking to India Today, Ganguly said:“Virat Kohli’s record as captain just goes to show India’s dominance at home. Kohli’s record is going to get better by the time England and Australia finish, which is about six Test matches and one against Bangladesh… that makes it seven. He has got a very good chance of winning all seven or probably five out of the seven.

“But just like everyone else, his challenge will begin when he starts travelling abroad,” he added.

Speaking about Kohli’s captaincy, he said:“Kohli is a fantastic leader and his passion for winning Test matches is unreal. And I think with his ability, just think about the Test match in Adelaide when the captain stands up and gets back-to-back hundreds and the second hundred was even better than the first one. So, when you have a captain who wants to achieve so much, you can expect good things from this side.”
