One of cricket’s most colorful personalities, the ‘Universe Boss’ – Chris Gayle – has turned 38 today. The Jamaican giant was born Kingston in 1979.
As expected, the social media space was bussing with fans celebrating his birthday, pouring warm wishes.
Return after a long gap
The hard-hitting opener recently made a comeback to the Windies ODI team after a hiatus of more than two years. He last played an ODI against New Zealand at Westpac Stadium on March 21, 2015, before being controversially dropped by the WICB.
He made his comeback in the 1st ODI of the five-match series against England at Manchester. To be exact, he was back in Windies ODI dressing room after a gap of 913 days.
His comeback innings was a short but an entertaining affair, however, as Gayle manage 37 from 27 deliveries featuring two boundaries and three sixes. This knock helped Windies get off to a quick and smooth start although he departed when the team score was just 45. The visitors will hope that their trump card will produce a memorable knock in the second ODI.
This year has been good for him as far as international cricket is concerned as he also was able to regain a place in the T20 side against India.
Sehwag makes the day special
Virender Sehwag did not miss the opportunity to wish his good friend and mark the special occasion. As we all know, the former Indian opener, who as an amusing history of inviting banters on social media, took to Twitter to express his thoughts. He did in his trademark style by dedicating a funny Shayari to the Windies legend.
He wrote: Aa Gayle, Bowler Maar! Happy Birthday to a man with a big big heart, the legend, Universe Boss.
