Virender Sehwag Delighted To Meet India's Women Cricketers 1

The last few weeks have been nothing less than a dream for India’s women team. After the sensational performance in the recently-concluded World Cup, Mithali Raj & Co. have been lauded from all quarters. Starting from the warm reception at the airport to different prizes including cash and cars, the cricketers have been rightly showered with rewards and recognition. Even Prime Minister Narendra Modi had hosted them.

Well, the way the Women in Blue performed in England, one can easily say that they deserved all these rewards. After India made it to the World Cups following the victory in the qualifier tournament, very few had given the team a chance to make it far in the event. However, led by their inspirational captain Mithali Raj, Team India defied all the odds and exceeded all the expectations, beating the likes England, West Indies, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, New Zealand and defending champions Australia to make it to the final.

India were also agonisingly close to winning the final against England but a dramatic collapse dashed their hopes as they lost the match by 9 runs after losing their last 7 wickets for just 28 runs. But despite the loss, the cricketers have been lavished with praise and now former India opener Virender Sehwag took time out from his schedule to host the World Cup stars. The Nawab of Najafgarh, who was a part of 2011 World Cup win, met Harmanpreet Kaur, Veda Krishnamurthy, Jhulan Goswami, Ekta Bisht, Poonam Raut and Rajeshwari Gayakwad.

Expressing his delight over meeting the ladies, the ever-active Twitter user posted a group picture and wrote: “What a joy and pleasure to meet these wonderful girls who make us so proud. @ImHarmanpreet , @vedakmurthy08 Jhulan, Ekta,Poonam & Rajeshwari.”
