Virender Sehwag has hinted at retirement to make himself eligible for the inaugural edition of Masters Champions League, which will feature legends like Brian Lara, Wasim Akram and Adam Gilchrist among others.
Speaking during the ceremony in Dubai, Sehwag casually remarked that he would quit international cricket. His comment instantly went viral with several teammates paying tributes to the former Master Blaster, who continues to play first-class cricket for Haryana. Sehwag later clarified the decision to quit was not final and he would make up his mind only after returning to India.
Last week, Sehwag’s Indian teammate Zaheer Khan announced his retirement from international cricket. Sehwag was part of the 2011 World Cup winning squad and has several cricket records to his name.
Sehwag has the fastest triple ton in Test cricket – off 278 balls against South Africa in 2008. He was also the first Indian to score a triple century in Tests when he hit 309 against Pakistan in 2004. Sehwag also held the highest individual score in ODIs at one point when he hit 219 against West Indies in 2011.
The right-hander has not played for India in any format since the 2013 Test series at home against Australia.
