Virender Sehwag has questioned Glenn Maxwell’s below-par performance and his continuous failure for Kings XI Punjab in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020.
To solve the middle-order problem, Kings XI Punjab had bought Glenn Maxwell for 10.50 crore in the IPL 2020 auction. But the Aussie cricket has not justified the price tag with his performance in the past six matches. He has amassed 1, 5, 13*, 11, 11*, and 7 runs respectively in six matches. His poor outing is also hurting the team.

Virender Sehwag has also lashed out on Glenn Maxwell. He said that even though the Australian batsman had got enough time and overs to bat, he has failed to put up a good score on the board.
“Don’t know what sort of a platform Glenn Maxwell needs to explode. He came in early (against Sunrisers Hyderabad) after Punjab lost two batsmen quickly. A lot of overs were left this time, but he failed. Earlier, he didn’t have pressure (batting in the death overs in previous matches), yet he got out without performing,” he aid.
Virender Sehwag also questioned why Maxwell is bought for a hefty price in auction although he struggles to perform every season. He said that he couldn’t understand the reason behind the franchise running after him for bidding.
“I can’t quite understand his mindset because it’s been the same story every year. He gets sold in the auction for a hefty price but the result remains the same. Yet, people (franchises) run after him. This is something I don’t understand,” said the former KXIP coach.
Don’t Understand Why Franchises Run After Glenn Maxwell: Virender Sehwag

The former Indian cricketer, however, believes that in the next IPL auction, the price tag of Glenn Maxwell is going to hugely drop because of his poor form. He also reminded everyone of Maxwell’s fact that he last scored a half-century in IPL in 2016.
“In the next auction, I think his price will drop from 10 crores to somewhere around Rs. 1-2 crores which is what it should be. It has to be kept in mind that he scored his last half-century in 2016,” Sehwag said.
Talking about KXIP’s last game against SRH, he said that if Glenn Maxwell had set up a partnership with Nicholas Pooran the results might have been different.
“Today, he was only required to give Pooran some company. If he could just stay at the other end of the pitch, Pooran might have won KXIP the match. In the end, Pooran was left alone and got dismissed,” Viru opined.
With the defeat against SRH, KXIP has lost consecutive four games in six matches played. Their next game is against Kolkata Knight Riders on Saturday.
