Virender Sehwag, former Indian opener and the mentor of Indian Premier League (IPL) team Kings XI Punjab, might be roped in as the head coach of the franchise after Sanjay Bangar’s exit. According to TOI, Bangar, who was appointed as the assistant coach of Indian cricket team in 2014, was involved in an argument with Preity Zinta, the co-owner of the franchise after the team’s poor performance last year. This led to Bangar parting ways with the franchise.
With Virender Sehwag mentoring the team last season, he seems to be the best member on their roster to replace Bangar as he possesses oodles of experience at international level and is a reputed player as well.
If this happens, then it’ll the first time when Viru will play duties of a coach. Other than Kings XI Punjab, he has also been a mentor of Haryana Ranji Trophy team. At the start of the year, Viru expressed his desire to become a coach and this is the best platform where he can work with young players.
Recently, Kings XI Punjab released four players Mitchell Johnson, Rishi Dhawan, Kyle Abbott and Farhaan Behardien. They surprisingly retained David Miller, who just scored 161 runs in 13 innings last season.
