Virender Sehwag expressed his gratitude to former skipper Sourav Ganguly on the occasion of the latter’s 45th birthday. Sehwag looked extremely happy and posted a heart touching tweet about ‘Dada.’
He tweeted:
“Whatever success I could achieve in Test Cricket, I truly attribute it to the wonderful support you gave me.”

Ganguly is highly appreciated for his captaincy record overseas and leadership skills that revolved around the notion of trusting the youngster’s capabilities. His vision of a strong team involved providing ample amount for opportunities to rising domestic names. He was not even much concerned of getting unconventional names like Virender Sehwag and MS Dhoni on board.
The first tweet was a mark of respect by Sehwag for the opportunities and liberty that Ganguly provided him during the early stages of his career. Sehwag was an extraordinary pinch-hitter who made his debut at the position of No. 7 in the batting order. Under orthodox conditions, Sehwag might have ended remaining as the same sort of player and the Indian cricketing fraternity would have never got its ‘Nawab of Najafgarh.’
However, the contrarian mindset of Ganguly saw Sehwag in the opener’s form. The decision was criticised initally but it proved to be a boon for Team India as for the next 6-7 years, the side never had to bother about quick positive starts. Sehwag eventually ended his career as India’s most dreaded opener ever.
God of off-side
Similarly, Ganguly was a no –nonsense sort of top order batman who played a good part of his career as opener himself. He was prominently known for dominance in the off side region. The cover drive was his trademark shot and earned him the nickname ‘God of off-side.’
Sehwag did not forget to mention this fact as well and followed his birthday tweet with another tweet appreciating the batting capabilities of Ganguly.
He tweeted
“Pro Tip-While with Dada,b est to be on his leg side.On the offside,b all or human it’s a boundary. In this pic,B at is on his left”
