Former Indian swashbuckling batsman Virender Sehwag who was in line to become Team India’s next head coach evaded the questions which were asked to him with regard to the controversial selection of former director Ravi Shastri as the head coach of the team.
Sehwag was a member of the shortlisted candidates who were interviewed by the Cricket Advisory Committee comprising of Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman.
Sehwag who is never shy from speaking his heart out didn’t quite reveal that whether he was informed about separate batting and bowling coaches.
Instead, he said “if you ask questions on ‘Umeed India’ (the show Sehwag is promoting) then I will answer. Thanks.”
The Nawab of Najafgarh also spoke on the difficulties of the Indian athletes who have their work cut out due to minimum facilities available in the country to prepare for world events like Olympics and World Championships.
When enquired about the struggles he went through compared to those of the athletes, Sehwag said,
“My struggle was nothing in comparison to them. For me cricketing facilities were available at every corner, there are 1000s of academies in Delhi where (one) gets facilities and equipment. There is no struggle for us cricketers in front of them.”
Ever since his retirement from international cricket, Sehwag has kept on entertaining his fans even off the field. He has made a name for himself in the world of social media and regularly keeps on posting hilarious tweets. He wishes former cricketers and celebrities on their birthdays in his own unique style and some of those wishes will make you burst with laughter.
During his playing days, Sehwag was undoubtedly the most fearless batsman of his generation and had the ability to change the complexion of a match within a blink of an eye. The way he tormented world class bowlers with minimum footwork remains a mystery. He had practically no feet movement and despite such a big drawback, he kept on churning runs after runs at a breathtaking pace.
He boasts of two triple centuries in Test cricket and was in line to get his 3rd but fell a mere 7 runs short. He is the 2nd batsman after the legendary Sachin Tendulkar to smash a double century in ODI cricket.
