Virender Sehwag received love from across the cricketing globe. His exploits on the field even made the opposition fans cherish him. In his glorious career, which staged over a decade, Sehwag had earned respect, accolades and admiration. However, he of late revealed the two names he admires the most, across respective fields. In the cricketing circuit, Sehwag thanked the contributions of former India selector, Mohinder Amarnath. Besides him, Sehwag credited the contributions of veteran Bollywood actor, Asrani.
Why Mohinder Amarnath?
One must be wondering; why off all people, Virender Sehwag has named Mohinder Amarnath as the person he admires the most in the cricketing sector. Yes, the former India National Cricket Team all-rounder was the Player of the Match in the finale of 1983 World Cup; but is it all?
The story goes back seven years, when Amarnath, who was part of the selection committee; had recommended Sehwag’s name to replace MS Dhoni as India’s Test captain in 2012. Though the panel held discussions regarding the same, nothing changed; as MS remained as the skipper of the India team until he announced retirement from Tests in 2014. Not only this, Mohinder Amarnath, then was released of his duties as a member of the selection panel.
However, Amarnath, who was set to replace K Srikanth as the chief selector then, said,
“Definitely, there were discussions to replace Dhoni and people had even agreed to do so, but for some internal reason it didn’t happen. I would not like to divulge what the reasons were. But when the time is right, I will let the people of this country know about the reasons,”
Sehwag credits Amarnath, Asrani for their contribution
Recently, Virender Sehwag, who is very active on the social media said the credit should be given where it is due. Referring to his tweet, the ex-India opener added the name of the two dignities in the respective field, Mohinder Amarnath and Asrani.
