Tributes were pouring in from all corners after Karun Nair became only the second Indian batsman from India to score a triple century in Test cricket during the ongoing match against England in Chennai.
The Karnataka batsman did not have the best of starts to his Test career as he was run out for only 4 runs in his debut Test at Mohali. In his next Test, the right-handed batsman could score only 13 runs and one can say that he could make it to the playing eleven in Chennai only because Ajinkya Rahane was injured. With this Test being the last before the Test series against Australia in February, it was the last chance for Nair to make a mark and oh boy did he made a mark as he fully justified the team management’s faith in him with an outstanding knock.
He also became the third Indian batsman to turn a maiden century into a double ton with Dileep Sardesai (200*) and Vinod Kambli (224) and has now become the highest scoring Indian with a maiden Test century.
As expected, fans, cricketers and experts around the country were busy wishing the cricketer for the monumental knock and so how can one expect Virender Sehwag to not join the bandwagon. One of the most active cricketer on Twitter, the two times triple-centurion in Tests tweeted:“Yay ! Welcome to the 300 club
@karun126 . It was very lonely here for the last 12 years 8 months. Wish you the very best Karun.Maza aa gaya!”

Well, apart from getting a companion in the 300 club, Sehwag will also be very proud of the way Nair reached the landmark as he hit Adil Rashid for a four to score his 300. He remained not out on 303 as Virat Kohli finally declared India’s innings on 759 for 7, 282 runs ahead of England’s first innings total of 477. Nair’s stunning innings was studded with 32 fours and 4 sixes.
