Virender Sehwag was one of the most entertaining batsmen during his player career. His fearless approach with the willow made him the darling of Indian cricket fans. After playing 104 Tests, 251 One-Day International and 19 T20Is, the right-handed batsman retired from the game last year. However, he has made sure to keep his fans entertained even after hanging his boots. The Nawab of Najafgarh who is also a part of a commentary team of ongoing India-New Zealand Test series has become a huge hit on Twitter with his witty posts.
The former swashbuckling opener has carved his own niche on the social media with his unique and humorous style. The 37-year old is one of the most active cricketers on Twitter and he rarely misses to express his views on a topic. Whether it’s about taking a stand on a social topic, congratulation someone or wishing someone on his or her birthday, the retired player never fails to entertain his fans.
Well, it seems Sehwag has added one more admirer to his already long list of admirers. And this time, it is none other than his former India teammate and current India coach Anil Kumble.
Talking to the media after India’s impressive 178-run win against New Zealand in the second Test against Eden Gardens, Kumble said that Sehwag was the best among them when it came to making the best use of 140 characters on Twitter.
“Credit to BCCI that we are playing 13 Test matches at home. And in new centres, where people will want to be involved in Test cricket. At the same time, like I mentioned, it will be a great tool for digital marketing. Viru is the best amongst (all of us) on this stage with 140 characters but all I can say is in this digital era, it’s a great platform to promote Test cricket,” said Kumble.
