Gautam Gambhir’s contribution to Indian cricket has gone unnoticed. Very few know that he was the match-winner for Team India in the World Cup 2011. He scored 97 runs and handled the pressure when Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag lost their wickets in the grand-finale against Sri Lanka in the mega event. Likewise, Gambhir also played a significant role in India’s victory in the final of the T20 World Cup 2007.
Former Test cricketer VVS Laxman, in the recent post on Twitter, has applauded Gautam Gambhir, saying that the former Indian opener was totally obsessed with the game and never shied away from a challenge that came his way on the cricket field.
VVS Laxman praised Gautam Gambhir
“Massively inquisitive and totally obsessed with the game, Gautam Gambhir never shied away from a challenge on a cricket field. Whether it was taking on express pace bowlers on spicy tracks overseas or standing up for a wronged teammate, he knew not what it was to back down,” Laxman said in a tweet.

Cricketer-turned-politician Gambhir made the debut for Team India in 2003. He went on to play 58 Tests, 147 ODIs and 37 T20Is besides playing in Indian Premier league for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Delhi franchise. Gambhir also led KKR to win two Indian Premier League (IPL) titles in 2012 and 2014. He was at his best between 2007 and 2011.
Gambhir was dropped from the white-ball cricket in 2013 and consecutively, he was also dropped from Test cricket. He made the comeback in 2016 but failed to retain his place. Finally, in 2018, Gambhir bid adieu to international cricket, scoring 4154 in Tests, 5238 in ODIs and 932 in T20Is.
After retirement, he is still connected to the game as he does commentary and also works as a cricket expert in some TV shows. Also, the former cricketer has always been vocal in keeping his opinion on social media.
