Former Team India batsman VVS Laxman has named his India’s 15-member probables for the upcoming 2019 World Cup squad on Wednesday (January 23). Interestingly, the prominent batsman has backed out of form KL Rahul for the quadrennial event scheduled in England. Laxman revealed it during a post-match show of broadcasting giant Star Sports.
Pertinently, Laxman’s list of 15 probables came following India’s victory in an opener of the ODI series over hosts New Zealand. The visitors sealed the game comprehensively by eight wickets and with 14.5 overs to spare at McLean Park in Napier.
Also, Laxman sees the 21-year-old Rajasthan-born left-arm promising paceman Khaleel Ahmed on the coveted list for Team India. He maintained Jasprit Bumrah is a big difference as batting has been doing an exceptional job.
In the bowling department, the pace battery includes experienced Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Mohammed Shami.
Moreover, he didn’t show any reluctance in naming promising all-rounder Hardik Pandya in the squad. The Baroda-based cricket Pandya stands suspended alongside Rahul by the BCCI following a TV Show controversy.
Pandya and Rahul were torn apart on the social media for the racist slurs and misogynistic comments in the famous Koffee with Karan talk show.
With promising wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant missing out, Laxman sees Dinesh Karthik as a back-up gloveman for MS Dhoni. The 37-year-old Dhoni did an outstanding job in Australia to play a crucial role in India 2-1 series win.
VVS Laxman doesn’t see Ashwin in the 2019 World Cup squad:
Interestingly, Laxaman has overlooked premium Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin. He has set up his focus solely on the young duo in the form of wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav and the leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal.
On the other side, Laxman’s former teammate Gautam Gambhir, who recently announced his retirement from cricket, believes Chennai-based Aswhin could be a key for the Men in Blue in the United Kingdom (UK).
Also, the Delhi-based southpaw reiterated Ashwin guile and bag full of tricks would be useful for the Virat Kohli’s India.
Hosts England and visiting South Africa will face in an ICC’s coveted events opener on May 30. Moreover, Kennington Oval in London is the venue for the curtain raiser of the 2019 World Cup.
With as many as ten teams partaking in the prestigious event, India has delivered the punch with some exceptional performances.
In addition, the 44-year-old Hyderabad-based cricketer Laxman had represented India in 134 Tests to amass 8781 runs at the average of 45.97. He also featured in 86 ODIs to register 2338 runs at an average of 30.76. Across formats, Laxman has 23 hundreds and 66 half-centuries to his name.
Here are VVS Laxman’s India’s 15 probables for the 2019 World Cup:
