“Spin to Trim” was the strategy of the Indian cricket team in the first session on Friday as we saw just spinners bowling in most part of the session with pacers being applied for just four overs out of 31.
The day started with sunshine piercing in the ground and a controversial decision of Ben Stokes. A sharp turning delivery from Ravichandran Ashwin took an edge off Stokes’s bat but the umpire was not at all convinced by that little nick. Kohli though decided to review the decision. After having few close looks from each angle, the third umpire overturned the decision and asked Stokes to walk towards the pavilion, which he did but with an unhappy face.
The Indian team had to wait for more than 10 overs in order to take another wicket and this time it was Chris Woakes, who edged a delivery off Ravindra Jadeja and Parthiv Patel did the rest.
The man with nine first-class centuries to his name, Adil Rashid, who was bowled by Ravindra Jadeja, left an arm ball which went onto castle his bails.
Meanwhile, Jos Butler stood solid at the crease as he continued to strengthen team’s total. Surely, his inclusion in the squad in place of Ben Duckett has proved to a boon for the team.
England will look to get past the 400-run mark so as to haunt Indian team with the memories of the last Wankhede game both teams played in 2012.
England (358/8 Keaton Jennings, Jos Buttler 64*; Ashwin 5-102, Jadeja 3-105)
