After a humiliating loss to Rising Pune Supergiants, the Sunrisers Hyderabad have roared back in style after a dominating performance over the Royal Challengers Bangalore. By the virtue of the 15 run win at Hyderabad, the Sunrisers have further increased their chances of qualifying for the playoffs. Once again, it was their batting which set the platform for the hosts as David Warner was great with his knock of 92.
But the most satisfying aspect for the Sunrisers, was the form displayed by New Zealand captain Kane Williamson in his very first game of the season. After having missed out due to injury, Williamson scored a fluent half-century to support Warner efficiently. In the post match conference, Warner admitted that he wanted Williamson to bat at 3 right from the start of the tournament.
“It’s always good to score some runs, but I am proud of the way the boys posted today with the bat,” said David Warner. “Obviously, it is very handy to have a player of Kane Williamson’s class to come in and help you knock it around and take the pressure off the middle-order and myself. We talk about partnerships and that was a fantastic one that we had out there. It allows to set a base,” Warner said.
“Look at Moises Henriques. Coming in, hitting 30-odd off not many balls and delivering that sort of knockout blow where you can easily be 180 instead of 194. Credit to the guy for actually getting it to that point and obviously the bowlers finished off the job today,” said Warner.
“That’s (Number 3) the position that we originally wanted him (Kane Williamson) to bat, but it was unfortunate that he got injured. But it sets us for the rest of the tournament, gives us a nice balance and hopefully we can produce performances and partnerships like that for the rest of the games,” said Warner.
