Former Pakistan coach and legendary bowler Waqar Younis believes tainted batsman Salman Butt deserves a second chance to make a comeback to the Pakistan team.
The 32-year-old southpaw recently completed his five-year ban for spot-fixing activities in 2010 during the England series. Mohammed Amir, who was also involved in the scandal, has been brought back to the national team but both Salman Butt and Mohammad Asif have been ignored so far by the national selectors.
Butt has been impressive in the domestic circuit as he scored a century in each innings of the final match in prestigious Quaid-e-Azam trophy which helped his side win the tournament. Waqar Younis feels the batsman, with the form he is in, deserves a second chance to make an international comeback.
In an interview to BT Sport, Waqar Younis insisted everyone deserves a second chance and feels the axed Salman Butt should play for Pakistan after his terrific run of form in the domestic circuit this year.
He said:
“He has served his sentence and everyone maybe deserves another go in life. He was playing really well and also he has served his sentence and punishment and I feel personally that everyone deserves a go. People are going to have different views. He is a good player, he is playing really well.”
