Wasim Akram, the Pakistani bowling legend commenced a training camp for budding and aspiring pacers at the National Cricket Academy in Karachi. The Sultan of Swing will train around 20 young pacers, mainly from Pakistan’s remote areas such as the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa region and areas near the Afghan border. The bowling legend seemed in great spirits after his session with the young and talented pacers.
Speaking post a training session, Akram said, “Pakistan has enormous talent,” said Wasim at the launch of the 13-day camp under the Pakistan Cricket Board.
“Talent keeps coming because there is a passion for bowling fast in Pakistan so we need to nurture the talent and I am confident that the future is secure,” said Akram.
“I am happy that bowlers from remote areas have come to the camp and even though the 13-day period is short but I am sure these bowlers will learn the basics, like I did when I was young,” he said.
With a living legend like Wasim Akram personally mentoring young individuals, the bowling future of Pakistan is bound to be in safe hands. Akram also went on to say that Mohammad Irfan, who has just returned from a career threatening injury needs more time to find his rhythm and groove.
Ramiz Raja, now a famous TV commentator, too lavished praises on the Pakistani team after their recent success during their tour of Sri Lanka. After being humiliated by Bangladesh, the Pakistani side at any cost had to reinstate the faith of the fans in the team. With test and ODI series victories against Sri Lanka in their own backyard, the Pakistani team has just done that.
“Pakistan have got bowlers who could get wickets anytime in the match which is an advantage in T20 cricket,” said Ramiz. Raja.
