Pakistan’s legendary pace battery Wasim Akram and Shoaib Akhtar has effusively praised young Bangladesh team for their impressive performance in the first Test match against New Zealand in Wellington.
Former Pakistan captain and legendary bowler Wasim Akram lauded the efforts of all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan and wicket-keeper batsman Mushfiqur Rahim for giving tough time to Kiwi bowlers at their backyard, which is considered very helpful for the bowlers owing to seam and swing conditions.
In a Pakistan cricket talk-show ‘Game On Hai’ which is hosted by Dr. Nauman Niaz on PTV Sports, the panel which also included former wicket-keeper batsman Rashid Latif and former fast-bowler Mohammad Wasim discussed varied topics regarding cricket, which included the resurgence of minnows like Bangladesh, who have shown some maturity at home in the recent past particularly in the white-ball cricket.
“Win and loss are the parts of the game. But the way Bangladesh played was simply outstanding. Shakib had played exceptionally well for his side to enjoy the away conditions which is good for the modern day cricket,” Akram said.
In a Test game against the Black Caps, Bangladesh scored a massive 595 for 8 before declaring the first innings after Shakib scored 217, his first double hundred and highest ever individual score in Tests for a Bangladeshi followed by the 25-year-old Rahim, who settled with 159.
At one stage of the game, Bangladesh were reeling at 160 four before Shakib and Mushfiqur went after Kiwis bowlers to score 359 runs for the fifth wicket.
After struggling in the recent past, Bangladesh has set an example for other teams and with the limited-overs captain Mashrafe Bin Mortaza being at helm, the promising fast-bowler has changed the mindset of new-look Bangladesh side to earn some reward for their all-round efforts.
The former 41-year-old fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar has praised Mashrafe for playing a significant role in the Bangladesh side to keep the young bunch united after returning from injuries.
