The whole cricket fraternity is going gaga over the fact that the World XI team has gone to Pakistan to play a three match T20 series to revive cricket in the country. No team traveled to Pakistan since the 2009 terrorist attacks on the Sri Lankan team bus which killed nine and wounded some Sri Lankan players. Only Zimbabwe and Afghanistan have gone to the country to play a limited over series in Pakistan.

ICC is making efforts to revive cricket in Pakistan as cricket is the most beloved sport in the nation, and it is important for cricket to have Pakistan on the map. Pakistan made a huge statement in this year’s Champions Trophy where they entered the tournament as a minnow and then went on to win the tournament beating India in the final. ICC has said on a regular basis that reviving cricket in Pakistan is at the top of their priority list.

Many former cricketers have praised this move by the ICC to have a World XI team to travel to the terrorist struck the country. Much appreciation was also given to the players who agreed to go to Pakistan and help cricket revive in the country.

Former Pakistan fast bowling duo of Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis are ecstatic about the Pakistan vs. World XI series in Lahore. Both legendary fast bowler who tore apart various batting line up in their time, took to Twitter to express their happiness about the series.

Wasim Akram tweeted:

Heading to the heart of the nation for what we anticipate to be an epic rebirth of our country’s beloved sport- Cricket! #CricketComesHome.”

Whereas, Waqar Younis tweeted, “Enroute 2 Lahore 4 #PAKvWXI I’m going pick up from where I left more than 8years ago. Join me tomorrow night and let’s make history!”

In the past, both players had expressed their feelings about the youth not following the sport as much as they used to track when cricket was played in the country, and know how important this move is for the revival of cricket in Pakistan.

We hope this tour encourages teams to travel to the country and renew their cricketing ties in Pakistan itself.
