Aaron Finch’s whirlwind century against Sussex on Monday (August 14) helped Surrey to win the important clash by 17 runs, as they kept their NatWest T20 Blast qualification hopes alive.
During the knock, the hard-hitting batsman also scored a staggering 30 runs off an over, as he remained unbeaten on 114 off just 64 balls. The stunning knock was studded with seven fours and as many sixes. The knock also helped him to equal the club’s record of most sixes in a T20 innings held by Mark Ramprakash.
The 30-runs came off the 18th over off the bowling of former South Africa all-rounder David Wiese. Finch scored a couple of the first ball before hitting four consecutive sixes to collect 26 runs off the five balls. Finch’s onslaught ended with four off the last delivery taking the total to 30 runs that over.

Meanwhile, Finch’s unbeaten knock helped Surrey to score a daunting 193 for two in the allotted 20 overs. In reply, Sussex could manage 176 for seven after Gareth Batty’s four-wicket haul. Chris Nash’s 38-ball 53 gave Sussex some hope but it was all one-way traffic after he was sent back by Batty. The win has lifted Surrey from bottom in the South Group to sixth.
