The final of the recently-concluded ICC Champions Trophy ended in the most unexpected of ways. Defending champions India had entered the summit clash on the back of some impressive wins in the tournament and were up against a team which had already got a taste of their might at the group stage. Not surprisingly, the Men in Blue were the widely touted favourites against Pakistan which was the lowest-ranked team in the tournament. However, the Men in Green thoroughly outplayed Virat Kohli & Co. in every department and registered a stunning win of 180-runs to win their maiden Champions Trophy.
There is absolutely no denying that India were beaten black and blue by Pakistan but Hardik Pandya’s disastrous run-out has left the millions of fans with ifs and buts. On an otherwise dismal noon at the Oval, the hard-hitting allrounder was playing his best One-Day International knock till date. On a pitch where the other Indian batsmen were finding it tough to deal with the red-hot Pakistani bowlers, Pandya was taking them to the cleaners.
Chasing an improbable 338, India were looking well out of the contest after Mohammad Amir’s fiery spell had reduced the defending champions to 54 for five with all the top-five batsmen back in the hut. However, Pandya was not ready to throw in the towel yet as he kept the match exciting with a whirlwind knock. The allrounder played the big shots at will and had raced away to 76 off just 43 balls with the help of four fours and six huge sixes before his promising innings came to an end courtesy of a horrible mix-up with Ravindra Jadeja that resulted in his run-out.
Well, Pandya could have survived that mix-up had Jadeja sacrificed his wicket but the left-handed batsman did otherwise. Pandya was absolutely furious with Jadeja’s act and did not hesitate in venting his frustration while he was walking off the pitch. Since that run-out, Jadeja have become the subject of several troll and memes and now another animated video has surfaced on Youtube which shows the duo fighting each other.
