After being set on the path for a comfortable win with solid stand by their openers, India have fallen into a spot of bother after a horrible mix-up between KL Rahul and Cheteshwar Pujara saw the latter returning to the pavilion even without opening his scoring and leaving India reeling at 46 to 2.
Chasing 106 to win the final Test against Australia, Murali Vijay and KL Rahul had set the platform for a easy win with a 46 run stand for the first wicket before the Tamil Nadu man edged a Pat Cummins delivery to return to the pavilion for 8. But the hosts suffered a huge setback when their in-form batsman Pujara had to make his way out of the field for a duck. The wicket fell on the last ball of the over in which Vijay was dismissed after Glenn Maxwell capitalised on a terrible call from Pujara and effected a smart run out. The Saurashtra batsman set off for a single as soon as he tapped the ball in front of point. However, Rahul was not convinced with the call and looked hesitant in taking the simple. After a while both the batsmen found themselves stranded in the middle of the pitch and in the meanwhile Maxwell picked up the ball and uprooted the middle stump at the non-striker’s end with a bullet throw.
Here is a clip of that run out:
