After being on the wrong side of majority of the decisions during the first two days, Bangladesh skipper Mushfiqur Rahim finally had something to cheer about as he survived a close run-out appeal on the third day of the one-off Test against India in Hyderabad.
The incident happened in the 50th over when Bangladesh were in a precarious position as they were reeling at 159 for 4 in reply to India’s mammoth first innings total of 687 for 6. However, the visitors had a mighty scare when their skipper Mushfiqur Rahim was in danger of losing his wicket before the benefit of doubt extended his stay on the crease.
The drama unfolded when Shakib Al Hasan drove a Ravichandran Ashwin delivery to mid-off and set off straightaway for a single. However, Rahim looked a bit hesistant before obliging to his partner’s call to complete the single. But the ball had gone to Ravindra Jadeja, one of the finest fielders in the world and the Indian all-rounder fired an accurate throw. Wriddhiman Saha also did not make any mistake and whipped the bails off in a flash as Rahim tried to get inside the crease with a diving save. As expected, the decision was referred to the TV umpire and he gave it in batsman’s favour.
However, his decision left the commentators surprised who thought the Bangladeshi batsman was out. Replays showed that Rahim’s bat, which landed on the ground sideways, was in the air when Saha dislodged the bails. But the umpire gave the benefit of the doubt to Rahim as the Bangladeshi star continued his rescue work with the willow.
