AB de Villiers is probably the unluckiest cricketer of all time. One of the best batsmen in the world right now, the South African star is one of the few batsmen to have 50-plus averages in both ODI and Tests. He has emerged as one of the batting mainstays for his country in the last 7-8 years. One of the best entertainers the game has ever seen, the explosive batsman has scored runs in every part of the world against all oppositions. Who can forget his monumental knock against West Indies in 2015, when he scored a century in only 31 balls to break the record of fastest century in ODIs. He also holds the record for the fastest fifty in ODIs.

Not only in ODIs, he is also one of the finest in Tests and T20s too. One can take a measure of his huge ability from the fact that he features twice in the top five – and thrice in the top 15 – slowest innings of 200 or more deliveries.

However, despite the extraordinary prowess with the willow, the star batsman has little to show when it comes to his team’s achievement in big tournaments. Not only with his national team, luck has deserted him in IPL too. He came agonizingly close to winning the IPL this season with Royal Challengers Bangalore but just like the previous times he was on the wrong side of the result. But the warrior he is, he comes out stronger after every setback and we really hope that he keeps on entertaining for a long time.
