Making the most of his red-hot form, India’s all-rounder Hardik Pandya etched his name in the record books by scoring 26 runs off Malinda Pushpakumara’s over on the second day of ongoing third Test against Sri Lanka in Pallekele. The 23-year old has now become the Indian player with most runs scored in an over in Test cricket. Pandya’s assault came off the bowling of Malinda Pushpakumara as he fell agonisingly short of Brian Lara and George Bailey’s record of most runs in a Test over which is 28.
26 runs by Hardik Pandya in an over – no Indian has hit so many in a single over in Test cricket!#SLvInd

Pandya’s onslaught included 3 sixes and a couple of fours and he, unfortunately, failed to score off the last ball of the over. The right-handed batsman, who scored a quickfire 50 on his debut in the ongoing series, was batting on 57 off 64 when Pushpakumara, Sri Lanka’s most successful bowler in the match, came to bowl.
The first couple of balls were dispatched for fours before the Baroda star slammed three consecutive sixes to score 26 runs off the five balls. Brian Lara and George Bailey would have to chew their nails if they were watching the game as Pandya needed only 3 off the final ball to break their record but India’s star failed to score off the final ball.
Here is a clip of that stunning assault from Pandya:
