Watch: Harmanpreet Kaur Gets Emotional After Scoring Century 1

Braving cramps, overcoming emotions, India’s middle-order batswoman Harmanpreet Kaur wrote her name in the cricketing folklore with an absolute gem of an innings in the ongoing World Cup semifinal against defending champions Australia.

The right-handed batswoman did not have the best of starts to the tournament, scoring 24, 10, 20 and 23 in four of the opening five matches she got to bat. However, the 28-year old hit the top-form just when it mattered the most. She scored a 60 in a must-win game against New Zealand and do even better in the all-important semifinal against the reigning world champions. India had got off to a poor start after the openers failed to fire again, and skipper Mithali Raj also could not get a big one as India found themselves reeling at 101 for 3 after the 25th over. But Harmanpreet took the onus on herself to guide India to a good total and did it brilliantly.

She reached her half-century in 64 balls and hit the top gear thereafter as she scored 47 runs off the next 25 balls to race to 98 off just 89 balls. However, she could have missed a deserved century when her junior partner Deepti Sharma was ball watching when she was all set to take the second run. Furious with Deepti’s conduct, Kaur slammed her helmet onto the ground before venting his emotion. But anger soon turned into happiness as Kaur reclaimed her composure and celebrated the moment.
