Jasprit Bumrah has become an indispensable part of India’s limited-overs team. The right-arm pacer, who made his debut last year, has become the pace spearhead in a very short span of time because of his tight line and accuracy. He recently played an integral role in Mumbai Indians’ victorious Indian Premier League and India’s run to the final of the ICC Champions Trophy. Not surprising then that he has become one of the most sought after cricketers in the country and is raking in a handsome amount.
But while the Gujarat star is leading a lavish life, one of his very close family members is living in extremely difficult condition. Bumrah’s grandfather Santokh Singh Bumrah is living in a rented place and drives an auto to make ends meet.
According to news outlet ABP, Bumrah’s grandfather lives in Uddham Singh Nagar of Uttarakhand and is dependent on the tempo to sustain his life since he moved here from Ahmedabad after some unexpected and unfortunate turn of events.
The news outlet claimed that Santok owned three factories which were flourishing. He took care of his business with his son Jasveer Singh Bumrah, Jasprit’s father. However, Santok’s life changed forever when Jasveer died in 2001. Following his son’s death, a devastated Santok lost his business and in order to pay some loans he had to sell his factories.
In 2006, he moved to his current resident after selling all his factories and decided to start afresh by buying four tempos. But luck back-stabbed him again as he suffered losses again and he was compelled to sell three of the four tempos. He is now driving the remaining one tempo for a living.
But despite the adversity, the 84-year-old fondly watches his grandson’s exploits on the cricket field and wants to hug him.
Here is a clip of Bumrah’s grandfather speaking about his life and his grandson:
