India and Pakistan share the most intense sporting rivalry in Cricket. Whenever the two teams collide, there are various other elements at play other that the 22 players who compete against each other on the field.
Traditionally, as the build-up of the game gathers steam, both the sides, in fact, both the countries, just gear up to take each other down. The ideas can vary from controversial statements, attempts to mock each other on social media or just funny adverts.
One such popular theme was the Mauka-Mauka series – which was a sarcastic effort to showcase the history of rivalry between India and Pakistan at the ICC events.
Ahead of the Champions Trophy, the ‘Mauka Mauka’ has been brought to life again by ‘V Seven Pictures’. Using the existing sarcastic tone, the makers of the video tried to poke fun of Pakistan’s aim of beating India in the upcoming clash at the Edgbaston on June 4th.
The concept, however, could not match the original series which purely focussed on hitting at Pakistan on cricket related issues and their poor track record against India in the Cricket World Cup rather than other sentiments.
While it may amuse a few, the whole video would eventually trigger fans from both the sides to get into an unnecessary debate due to the political undertone of the video.
Also, the concept of showcasing Pakistan as the clear underdogs also makes one feel that the makers clearly strayed away from their intention of showing India as the favourites by misunderstanding the intensity of an Indo-Pak contest.
That being said, the advert will do one thing for sure: pump up fans from both the sides and create an electric atmosphere (at least on the social media) ahead of the mouth-watering clash.
India and Pakistan will commence their Champions Trophy campaign with the June 4th contest. The two teams will be seeing each other at the competitive stage after having last met in the Asia Cup 2016.
In the last couple of years, uneasy political and diplomatic conditions have made sure that the two teams do not play against each other except ICC events. Therefore the eagerness among the fans is always palpable before every Indo-Pak game.
