Watch: MS Dhoni And BCCI All Set For The Former Captain's Milestone 300th Game 1

When a long-haired Mahendra Singh Dhoni walked out to bat for the first time in a One-Day International on 23 December 2004 and was dismissed for zero, many had expected that the Ranchi star would be the latest addition to India’s long list of wicketkeepers who failed to cement their spots in the team. However, the maverick boy wonder from Jharkhand was an exception by a mile as he 13 years after his forgettable debut, he has cemented his place in the history of the game as not only one of the best wicketkeepers but also a captain and batsman.

That Dhoni is special was very much clear when he slammed a monumental 148 in only his fifth ODI against Pakistan and has not looked back since then as he established himself as one of India’s premier batsman in ODIs. The most memorable moment of his early part of the career came in 2007 when he led a bunch of youngsters to the World T20 title in South Africa. He was soon given the captaincy in all the format and the rest is all history. Till date, he is the only skipper to have won all the ICC events after leading India to World Cup glory in 2011 followed by the Champions Trophy title in 2013.

His record with the bat is even better as he has amassed 9608 runs at an impressive average of 51.93 in ODIs so far and is looking good to add more to the tally. The former skipper is now all set to add one more feather to his cap as the upcoming fourth ODI against Sri Lanka will be his 300th. Dhoni will become only the sixth Indian cricketer after Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Mohammed Azharuddin, Sourav Ganguly and Yuvraj Singh to play 300 or more ODIs.

As expected, the fans, as well as players, are excited to see Dhoni achieve the big milestone and the BCCI’s Twitter handle was also keen to know whether the fans are all set for the big game as they posted a video of the 36-year old sweating it out on the nets.
