With the ICC Champions Trophy coming up this year and team India having no limited-overs assignments before the showpiece event in June, former India skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni has been playing in the Vijay Hazare Trophy to get the much-needed match practice. And looking at his performances, one can easily say that the 35-year old is making the full use of the opportunity.
After scoring 43 in a five-run defeat to Karnataka in the opening game of his team, the Jharkhand skipper scored a match winning ton to help his team beat Chhattisgarh by 78 runs. His 107-ball 129 knock was studded with 10 fours and six sixes. The explosive batsman has enjoyed a good run-of-form ever since stepping down as India’s limited-overs captain earlier this form.
Playing his first series after resigning from captaincy, he struck his first ODI century since 2013, against England in a three-match series. He followed it with a good performance in the T20 series too where he slammed his maiden fifty in the format in his 76-match career.
But sadly the fans are no getting to see their beloved cricketer in action on a regular basis. He has already retired from Tests and with India’s home season laden with Test matches, Dhoni has spent the majority of his time away from international cricket. So here we are giving you an opportunity to see one of his trademark knocks which came against Delhi in Vijay Hazare Trophy a couple of years ago.
The Indian star had scored 70 runs in that match but could not help his team cross the finish line as they slumped to a 99-run defeat. Chasing 226, Jharkhand kept on losing wickets at regular intervals, but Dhoni held firm from one end. However, he finally ran out of partners as his team was folded for a paltry 126. However, Dhoni made it sure to keep his fans entertained with some big hits during the knock.
Here is a clip of that knock:
