India opener KL Rahul was out for just 2 in the first innings of the ongoing first Test against Australia at Adelaide.
Team India’s decision to continue backing KL Rahul despite the opener’s prolonged poor form has backfired once again. The opening batsman entered the series on the back of a string of low scores. Rahul’s prolonged bad patch has been a talking point for some time now.

Rahul scored 149 against England at The Oval last month. But that knock, and a half-century against Afghanistan in the one-off Test in Bengaluru, are his only respectable scores in the 18 innings he has played this year. He had an issue with the in-coming ball and was repeatedly getting out. Rahul’s average this year stands at an ordinary 22.7 with 389 runs in 18 outings.
A fifty in the tour game must have given the team-management some confidence. But right now it looks like just a flash in the pan as Rahul failed to deliver with the bat once again. And he only has himself to blame for as he perished while playing a poor shot. Josh Hazlewood had bowled one full which was nipping away from outside off.
Rahul then went for the expensive drive and ended up paying a big price for it. The right-hander flashed hard at the ball but only managed a thick outside edge, straight to third slip where Aaron Finch made no mistake.

Well, India will be looking to recover from the early setback and look to post a big total as they eye their first-ever Test series win in Australia. Earlier in the day, India skipper Virat Kohli had won the toss and elected to bat first.
