Piyush Chawla revived Kolkata Knight Riders’ slim hopes against Chennai Super Kings with an absolute stunner to dismiss Suresh Raina.
What promised to be an exciting contest turned out to be a dull one thanks to a stunning bowling performance by Chennai Super Kings. MS Dhoni’s decision to bowl first turned out to be spot on as Super Kings bowlers demolished high-flying Knight Riders’ top-order.
Deepak Chahar gave the Super Kings a flying start by dismissing Chris Lynn for a duck in the very first over. In the very following over, Harbhajan Singh accounted for Sunil Narine before Chahar struck again to dismiss Nitish Rana and leave the Knight Riders reeling at 9 for 3 after three overs. Robin Uthappa did not last long too as the Knight Riders found themselves 4 down for just 24.

By the time the eleventh over started, the Knight Riders were staring down the barrel with the scoreboard reading 47 for 6. Andre Russell and Piyush Chawla then stopped the rot for a while before Harbhajan Singh sent back the latter. At one stage, it looked like the Knight Riders would struggle to even touch the 100-run mark but Russell hit an unbeaten fifty to guide the team to a respectable 108 for 9.
In reply, the Super Kings started shakily too with Shane Watson departing in just the third over. Knight Riders needed wickets to make the game interesting and Piyush Chawla then came up with a gem of an effort to send back Raina in the fifth over.
Sunil Narine bowled a flighted delivery to Raina and the latter went for a big heave. He, however, just managed to sky the ball although it looked set to land safely. However, Chawal ran from mid-on and put in a timely dive to catch the ball inches from the ground. The dismissal reduced the Super Kings to 35 for 2.
