Watch: Ravichandran Ashwin Brings Out the Leg-Spinner from his Arsenal

In the wake of captains having a growing affinity for wrist spinners in limited-overs cricket, the idea of finger spinners in white ball cricket has gone out of the window.
In the past 2-3 seasons of the limited-overs cricket, the likes of Adil Rashid, Imran Tahir, Ish Sodhi, Samuel Badree, Rashid Khan, Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal have taken the centre-stage.
India’s inability to take wickets during the middle overs, in the Champions Trophy, came into the forefront with the impotence of tried and tested Indian spin twins – Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja.
While the two are still India’s premier spinners in red ball cricket, the seasoned Indian spin twin is now out of favour in the blues for India.
However, India’s ace spinner in Tests, Ravi Ashwin, in a recent interview claimed to experiment with his latest weapon, the leg-spinner, in the forthcoming edition of IPL.
The ZR Irani Trophy game between Rest of India and Vidharbha at Nagpur finally saw Ravichandran Ashwin bring out his leg spinners on Day 1.
Interestingly, his action resembles that of leg-spinning maestro Anil Kumble. Throughout the spell, Laxman Sivaramakrishnan was pointing out the technical aspects of his new variation.
“Introducing @ashwinravi99, the leg spinner! We have seen him bamboozle the best batsmen with his off-breaks, but the ace spinner has added another dimension to his bowling and that is leg spin. Here’s the latest from R Ashwin’s bag of tricks,” tweeted BCCI.

Ravichandran Ashwin replaced his partner in crime, Ravindra Jadeja in the ongoing Irani Trophy. The Saurashtra all-rounder suffered a side strain and was prescribed to take rest.
Ravi Ashwin missed out on the recently held Paytm D B Deodhar Trophy. Like Jadeja, Ashwin was also adviced a rest for one.
