Watch: Ravichandran Ashwin Leads Worcestershire To Victory With his Maiden Five Wicket Haul 1

Indian spin wizard Ravichandran Ashwin picked up his maiden five wicket haul of his County cricket career in his debut game to set up a magnificent 189 runs win for his side Worcestershire.

Chasing 400 runs for victory, Gloucestershire could manage just 211 before getting all out. Ashwin was at the fore of the winning effort and ended with 5/68 in his 34 over spell. Skipper Joe Leach was the second best bowler with figures of 3/50.

His first wicket came in the form of William Tavare who had his defense completely broken and stumps shattered. Shortly after picking his first wicket, he added opener, Chris Dent, caught by George Rhodes, to his tally.

After this, he had to wait for some time to register his third wicket which came in the form of George Hankins in the 32nd over. His fourth wicket also came in after a lean patch which was of Jack Taylor dismissed LBW. He completed his five wicket haul with the wicket of tail ender Kieran Noema-Barnett. Three balls later, the win was sealed when Leach removed the last man Craig Miles.

Earlier in the first innings, Ashwin kicked off his English sojourn with a bowling spell of 29-1-94-3, only second best to Ed Barnard’s spell of 4/23 that highlighted the opening day’s play. This bowling effort saw Gloucestershire getting bowled out for just 258 runs and thereby giving a lead of 105 runs.

He produced this bowling performance after having already hit a crucial knock of 50-ball 36. The second innings witnessed a repetition of the same batting feat in the second innings as well where he made a run a ball knock of 28 from 30 deliveries.
