Ever since returning from a lengthy injury layoff, Rohit Sharma has hit a purple patch with the bat as he led India to a brilliant series-clinching win in the third One-Day International against Sri Lanka at Pallekele on Sunday (August 27). The right-handed batsman had missed the home series against England, Bangladesh and Australia after injuring his thigh during the ODI series against New Zealand but has hit the ground running since making a comeback to the team during the ICC Champions Trophy.
After scoring a century and a couple of half-centuries in the Champions Trophy, he was rested for the series against West Indies but has looked in supreme form in the ongoing series against Sri Lanka. He failed to get going in the series-opener due to a run-out but made amends with to brilliant knocks in the following two games. The Mumbai star scored 54 in the second ODI before scoring a stunning 124 to help India chase down 218 without much hiccups and seal the five-match series.
The Men in Blue were in a precarious position after being reduced to 61 for 4 with the likes of Shikhar Dhawan and Virat Kohli back in the pavilion but Rohit held firm from one end and along with MS Dhoni (67) added 157 runs for the fifth wicket to take the visitors home.
Rohit’s knock, meanwhile, left everyone pleased as his wife Ritika Sajdeh and his teammates were seen cheering as soon as he raised his bat after reaching the three-digit mark.
