Sam Curran starred with the ball, picking up a sensational hat-trick to power Kings XI Punjab to a miraculous 14-run win over Delhi Capitals. Curran was the architect of Delhi’s almighty batting collapse in Mohali on Sunday. The game was well in Delhi’s control before the squandered the great position to lose the game.
Chasing 167 to win, Delhi appeared to be in control after Rishabh Pant (39 off 26) and Colin Ingram (38 off 29 balls) added 62 runs for the first wicket. Delhi needed just 30 needed from the final four overs and it was their game to lose. Mohammed Shami then revived Kings XI’s hopes by dismissing Pant before Chris Morris was run out next ball.
It was all about Sam Curran from that point. Brought into the attack in the 18th over, he dismissed Ingram and Harshal Patel to turn the game on its head. The England allrounder returned in the 20th over to take two in two in the last to complete his hat-trick. Delhi Capitals lost their last 7 wickets for just 8 runs in a space of 17 deliveries to lose the game.
Sam Curran finished the game with impressive figures of 4 for 11.
The win was Kings XI’s third of the season in four games. Delhi Capitals, on the other hand, lost their second game of the season.
“Great win for the guys. I tried to put a performance for my team. Luckily enough, we scraped to 166, all the six bowlers were excellent. I have worked a lot on my batting over the last few months. I like to work hard on my batting, bowling and fielding. I have opened in school cricket, but think this was the first time in professional cricket. Hopefully, we keep winning games,” said Sam Curran who scored 20 while opening the innings.
Following the win, there were jubilant scenes all around and Curran was then seen doing the ‘bhangra’ with Kings XI Punjab co-owner Preity Zinta.
