The Story
Pakistan fast bowler Sohail Tanvir executed one of the most unbelievable bowling spells in the history of limited over cricket.
The left arm fast bowler rolled out a performance which saw him pick a 5-wicket haul at the cost of just three runs. This spell of 5-3 is the most economical five wicket haul in T20 history. He now shares this record with Afghanistan’s leg spinning sensation Rashid Khan and Sri Lankan left arm spinner Rangana Herath.
Warriors thrash Tridents
Tanvir’s 4 over bowling spell meant Guyana Amazon Warriors faced very little trouble in routing Barbados Tridents.
Four of his wickets came in his opening spell with the new ball at the cost of just two runs and his victims included important scalps of Kane Williamson, Dwayne Smith, Eoin Morgan and Tridents captain Keiron Pollard. The latter two fell off successive deliveries.
After inflicting such a damage, the Tridents never were able to get going during the chase of 159 and were bundled out for just 59 runs in 14 overs.
Tanvir completed his five-fer with the wicket of Wahab Riaz.
Just did the basics and reaped the rewards
Tanvir bowled with his natural zeal, sticking to his nagging line and length and superb away swingers from over the wicket. These factors combined with is already well-known unorthodoxy was a joy to watch. The pitch played its part and gave him an extra bit of movement which led to the batsman failing to play him with consistency.
“We knew how important the game was, and that’s what we discussed,” Sohail said.
“What we discussed was that we needed to put our hands up. Every wicket was important for me today, you name it, every wicket was of a match-winner’s.”
“When we came on this pitch yesterday, there was a bit of grass and moisture so I told my team-mates we can put balls in the right areas, and we were bound to get assistance. I just did the basics right, and got the reward.”
