Watch: Steven Smith’s disturbed father dumps cricket kit in a garage

The last few days have been nothing short of a nightmare for the Steven Smith’s family. Smith, is facing the wrath of the world following the ball-tampering scandal.

Smith along with David Warner and Cameron Bancroft conspired to alter the condition of the ball on the third day of the third Test against South Africa in Cape Town. He later went on to reveal that the everything was pre-planned.

The repercussions soon followed as the governing bodies came down hard on the trio. The ICC banned Smith for one-Test. Cricket Australia (CA) then went a step ahead and banned the top-ranked Test batsman for 12 months.

Along with Smith, the board handed lengthy bans to Bancroft and Warner too.

Moreover, it seems the whole scandal is taking its toll on Smith family. The cricketer’s father, Peter, got so disturbed with the episode that he decided to dump his son’s Australia cricket kit in the garage.

“He’ll be fine, he’ll survive, he’ll survive,” Peter said in front of the flashing cameras while he took the kit out of his car.

Meanwhile, Steven Smith issued his apology during an emotional press-conference in Sydney earlier this week.

“To see the way my old man’s been…it hurts. I just want to say I’m sorry for the pain that I’ve brought to Australia and the fans and the public, it’s devastating and I’m truly sorry,” a teary-eyed Smith had said.

Pertinently, Smith had a remarkable run with the bat in the traditional Ashes series at home, before leading his side in the Rainbow Nation.

“I take full responsibility … There was a failure of leadership, of my leadership. I’ll do everything I can to make up for my mistake and the damage it’s caused,” he had added.
