Watch: Steven Smith Giggles Away as Cameron Bancroft Responds Journalist over Jonny Bairstow’s Head-butt
With traditional Ashes fever already gripped certain quarters; it could be further seen as one of the weirdest post-match press conferences particular in cricket, as Australian skipper Steven Smith bursted into laughter.
Smith found debutant Cameron Bancroft answers much to his taste over Jonny Bairstow’s head-butt incident.
Interestingly, Smith gives ear to Bancroft’s response, but what made the Australian captain giggle away was when the latter stated: “It was a good hut! Play on…”
After laughing out at the response of Bancroft which also saw the whole room burst into laughter.
Interestingly, when a journalist asked Bancroft where he hit you actually, as latter further looked lost before Smith comes to the rescue of his teammate while stating it was ‘forehead’.
Smith, who was almost in tears during the press conference responded with: “Oh! Goodness, I can’t talk!” after being entertained by the promising prospect with his good sense of humour.
Adamant in his approach, Bancroft was incredible in response when a reporter asked him what you remember of the incident after wishing him best for scoring maiden fifty.
The 25-year-old Bancroft, who smashed unbeaten 82 off 182 balls, as Australia clinched the Brisbane Test by 10 wickets.
The Western Australia-born Bancroft was asked the pertinent question regarding the England wicket-keeper batsman, who head-butted the opener when the Three Lions arrived in Perth on October 29, early this year.
Moreover, the incident, in particular, took place when Mitchell Marsh-led Western Australia clinched a game in the first-round of the JLT Sheffield Shield competition.
While revealing the weird incident Bancroft further detailed out that he was expecting a ‘handshake’ or a ‘hug’ from Bairstow while adding there was no malice in it.
“I got into a very amicable conversation with Jonny, and… yeah, like, he just, um, [chuckles] just greeted me with… just… a head-butt kind of thing. I was expecting a handshake,” Bancroft maintained during the post-match press conference of Brisbane Test.
Earlier, the 28-year-old Bairstow, who represented Yorkshire, reiterated that the ‘head-butt’ incident was blown out of proportion by Australian media.
The New South Wales-born Smith, who is enjoying his prolific run in the Test circuit.
The right-handed batsman Smith was also declared Man of the Match after scoring unbeaten 141 off 326 deliveries.
Smith, who has been dominating the international format while amassing runs at will, has already lavished praise on Bancroft as a special talent in the Australian set-up.
