MS Dhoni is no ordinary man behind the stumps, especially when standing up to the spinners. The champion cricketer has pulled off some of the most stunning stumping chances ever in the history of ODI cricket. The kind of efforts he puts in when keeping for the spinners remains unmatched till date. The uniqueness of his ability is such that no one has yet arrived at the international level to match his close keeping antics.
However, in the 4th ODI against Bengaluru, the unthinkable happened when a leg break from Yuzvendra Chahal, got an inside edge of the batsman’s bat and eventually managed to fool MS Dhoni.
Finch blinded Dhoni and eventually led to having no clear sight of the delivery. The advantage went in Australia’s favour as the ball raced to the boundary line. This entire scenario was one of those rare moments where Dhoni failed to hold of a difficult chance.
During the ongoing 5th ODI, a similar kind of event repeated itself when a Kuldeep Yadav delivery to Travis Head misbehaved after pitching and jumped sharply towards MS Dhoni. The ball took the wicketkeeper by surprise but could not escape his hold like the previous occasion during the 4th ODI.
Dhoni was an alert and quickly improvised technique to grab the ball. The chance was so tough that it left him unsettled from the ground. Forced by the backward momentum, he lost his balance and fell on his back. Tha ball, despite all this, remained safe in the gloves of the former skipper.
