Sarfaraz Khan’s non-selection in Team India’s Test squad continues to be one of the biggest puzzles in Indian cricket. The right-handed batsman has been snubbed once again by the selectors as he failed to make it to the squad for the upcoming two-match Test series in West Indies.

The Mumbai star has been one of the best if not the best batsman in the Ranji Trophy in recent seasons. Very few batsmen have scored as heavily as him in first-class cricket in the last few seasons. In the last three seasons of the Ranji Trophy, he has scored 2566 runs – 928 in 2019/20, 982 in 2022-23, and 656 in 2022-23. Sarfaraz Khan has a career average of 79.65.

He has hit 13 centuries so far including a triple century. However, he is still waiting for his maiden call-up from the senior national team. For the upcoming tour of West Indies, the selectors picked Ruturaj Gaikwad ahead of him who has an average of less than 43 in first-class cricket.

Is this incident responsible for Sarfaraz Khan’s Test snub?

With the selectors once again ignoring Sarfaraz Khan, fans and experts have questioned them and criticised them heavily. And a recent report suggest that performance was not really the reason behind Sarfaraz not getting the nod for the West Indies tour. According to a report from the PTI, his conduct on the field was one of the reasons why he was not selected.

The report stated that Sarfaraz’s celebrations after his hundred against Delhi earlier this year during a Ranji game didn’t sit well with former selection committee chairman Chetan Sharma. The selectors were in the stands to watch the match and Sarfaraz came up with an angry reaction and pointing finger after his century.
