Watch: Trent Boult Castles Impatient Rohit Sharma With A Beauty
It looks like practising against Arjun Tendulkar in the nets has not given the desired results for the Indian batsmen as the Men in Blue’s struggles against left-arm seamers have been exposed once again in the ongoing first One-Day International against New Zealand at the Wankhede Stadium. The way the in-form Rohit Sharma threw away his wicket to Trent Boult, it is not very hard to imagine why India’s top-order have struggled against the likes of Mohammad Amir and Jason Behrendorff in recent times despite being in supreme form.
The match began on a poor note for the hosts as Dhawan played a Boult delivery away from his body and paid the price by edging it to the wicketkeeper. But if Dhawan’s shot was poor, what Rohit did was even worse. The right-handed batsman, who had entered the series after finishing the series against Australia as the highest run-getter, began the sixth over with two consecutive deliveries.
And with pressure mounting, he swung his bat at the following delivery only to see it going past between his bat and pad behind to the wicketkeeper. However, the local boy did not learn from his mistakes and played a similar rash shot on the very next delivery, and this time he did not get the reprieve as Boult’s inswinger disturbed his timbers.
Here is a clip of that dismissal:
