The way Matt Renshaw had performed in the first two Tests of the Border-Gavaskar series, India needed to dismiss him cheaply in the ongoing third Test at Ranchi to get off to a good start after losing an important toss.
However, the 20-year old left-handed batsman was looking as solid as he has in the series so far and gave the visitors a solid start by adding 50 runs with David Warner for the first wicket. The southpaw raced to 44 in no time and was looking destined for scoring his third fifty of the series before Virat Kohli decided to bring back Umesh Yadav. And the fast-bowler, who had bowled an ordinary opening spell, proved Kohli’s decision right by sending back the batsman in his second over after the reintroduction.
With Renshaw’s defence and drives looking solid, Yadav needed to ball smartly and he did it brilliantly. The right-arm pacer first set up the Aussie opener by bowling outside the off-stump before tasting success. On the last ball before the dismissal, Yadav almost got the wicket but the edge fell just short of the second slip fielder and on the very next delivery Renshaw had to pay the price for playing away from his body. Looking to guide a wide delivery, the batsman could only edge it to the slip cordon where Virat Kohli made no mistake in taking the catch:
Here is a clip of that dismissal:
