Virat Kohli has scored 49 international centuries and over 70 half-centuries, he is the number one ODI and T20I batsman but even he could not believe his eyes when his heave with the bat off Colin de Grandhomme in the ongoing first T20 International went to the second tier of Feroz Shah Kotla.
After the Indian openers- Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan- gave India a stunning start by adding a record 158 runs for the first wicket, the hosts sent in hard-hitting allrounder Hardik Pandya at number three. However, the move backfired as he was dismissed for a duck by Ish Sodhi. But Kohli, who did not come out to bat at his usual position perhaps because he takes his time initially, showed that no matter what he is one of the best in business as he sent the second ball he faced for a gigantic six. De Grandhomme bowled a length ball right in the arc, inviting Kohli to go for the shot and the Indian star duly obliged. The right-handed batsman moved across the stumps to get inside the line and then launched a well-timed shot. But while it looked the ball would not travel far, it surprisingly did and by a good mile, much to Kohli’s surprise who could not refrain from expressing his emotion.
Here is a snippet of that dramatic incident:
