Virat Kohli might have led India in Tests for more than a year and also gained the experience of leading the ODI team in the ICC Champions Trophy but the 28-year old seems to depend a lot on his illustrious predecessor Mahendra Singh Dhoni when it comes to taking a big decision. Time and again we have seen Kohli running to Dhoni to take tips and suggestions and the fans witnessed the scene once again during the second match of the ongoing series in West Indies.
The incident occurred in the 26th over of West Indies’ innings when left-arm spinner Kuldeep Yadav’s delivery hit Shai Hope on his pads. The right-handed batsman got down for a sweep but failed to make any contact with the ball after it dipped at the last minute. As expected, the Indian fielder went up in unison only to see umpire Chris Gaffaney giving his decision in the favour of the batsman. However, India were convinced that they had got their man but Kohli did not want to squander the DRS chance and consulted Kohli before showing the ‘T’ sign.
And after Dhoni gave the go-ahead, Kohli refereed the decision. Replays showed the ball was hitting middle and leg, forcing the on-field to reverse his decision. It was a big wicket for India as Hope was playing on 81. His dismissal totally derailed West Indies’ innings as they managed to score 205 for 6 in reply to India’s 310.
